Today's encouragement comes from Psalm 49:5, where we read these words:
"Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity at my heels surrounds me?"The psalmist asks a very good question here (above). Is fear the proper re-sponse to "days of evil"? Is cowering before sinners what God requires of HIs churchmen, when "iniquity" "surrounds" us? Indeed, no. Instead, faith and re-sulting faithfulness is to be employed. Faith in Christ says, " 'The days of evil' will not intimidate me, or overwhelm me."
We do not need to deny that these are, “days of evil," in many ways; and yet we still have no cause for fear. It does not matter whether things in culture look promising, or foreboding—in any case the faithful church will glory in Jesus; and trust in our Sovereign God.
