Wed., 8/25/21 Devotion (1 Sam. 17:45)

Today's encouragement comes from the lips of David, as it is found in 1 Sam-uel 17:45:

"Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.’ "

What is Satan, compared to Christ? What is a hypocrite, compared to a true saint? What is the world, compared to the redeemed church of Christ? If we belong to God through Jesus Christ, then we will certainly be attacked with the "sword" and "spear" and "javelin" of God’s foes—but *our* weaponry is much better than theirs: “The Name of the LORD of hosts."

Let true churchmen be strong in the Lord; and let us take our stand for Christ, His church, His gospel, His word, and His ways.

[Puritan quote of the day: "What thankfulness to God, and what love for Jesus Christ the Redeemer, does the hope of forgiveness excite in you?” —John Shower, in, "God's Thoughts and Ways are Above ours"]
